Writing a book; Let’s get started!!

Method 1 of 4; Getting started on your book.

1. Buy a notebook.

I am so used to typing that whenever I do start writing on paper. My hand gets very sore after a while and I stop. I do agree that you need to put your ideas somewhere when you not near a computer. For this however I choose to write it in my phone in a memo. In these modern times it happens rarely I am without my smartphone.

2. Start thinking.

I normally start writing about whatever is on my mind or when I am curious about a certain topic and start looking into it. However with writing a book or a short story it might be easier to make an overview.

  • plot outline
  • characters; names, back story, looks
  • places

It gives you a certain idea of your story and it can help you during moments that your slightly stuck.

(I never write with an overview. But I made one for my fiction story. This is how my one looks:)

The plot outline:

There was a prophecy thousands of years ago about a half elf born between an human and an elf. When the baby was born the elf part  of the elf died, leaving an weak and sick human part behind.

The baby would be the saving of the elf’s and human world. As for hundred’s of years the dark elves were in power and brought nothing but despair and pain. The dark elves wanted to keep the power and forbid humans and elves to interact. The elves went back to there own country which is located under the elf trees. You are only able to get in if you have elf-blood. The dark elves are plotting to take over the world and kill all the humans. There is one girl that can stop them.

The Characters:

Maya O’Bree – 21 years old – Half elf and half human – New York – Waitress. (Main-character).

Ron O’Bree (Oberon) – 41 years – Human – New York – Waitress. (Maya’s dad).

Misty O’Bree  – 20 years (deceased) – Elf – Feraly – Princess of the Flower elves.

Your story does not have to end the way it does in your outline.

 The start of my story:

Painful memories, a heart full of scares. That is what was left of Maya. Maya was a beautiful girl with long blond hair and bright blue eyes. But she did not smile; in her eyes you could see the pain. She was broken but could she be fixed.

Maya was standing outside her school, waiting for her dad to pick her up. He was late again, like always. Maya did not have any friends. She kept to herself as her dad always explained her people you love will leave you in order to protect yourself do not let them get close to you. Maya was not lonely because she never knew another life.

After 15 minutes she looked around and still did not see her dad anywhere so she decided to go to the little café across the road.

Maya started to walk across the street. If she did look a little bit better she would have noticed that she was being followed. Her dad who just came around the corner saw the beautiful creature that was following his daughter. The creature had half long dark brown hair that was slightly curled and bright purple eyes. He looked Maya’s dad straight in the eyes and Maya’s dad fell to the ground as an awful sound was going through his head so awful that his heart started to go faster and faster. Then after a few seconds he heard a women scream: Call Nine One One! I think he is having a heart attack.

That should keep him away is what the creature thought. The creature went after Maya. He was supposed to bring her to the king and queen and he must not fail. He did not expect Oberon to be alive, he hoped he was strong enough and that Oberon would die. He did not need any more obstacles with receiving Maya. He never thought Maya would be this pretty and if she was as strong as elves expected her to be he might have a lot of trouble convincing her to come with him.

Maya did not notice what was happening around her, she did not notice the elf that was after her or her dad dying. She walked to the café and went straight to the toilets. Next to the toilet was a big mirror and when she looked into the mirror she saw it move slightly. It looked like water. She saw a guy coming after her in the mirror, the guy scared her. There was something weird and odd about him. An arm came out of the mirror and grabbed Maya. Maya was too frightened to scream or do anything.  And then everything turned black for Maya.

The beautiful and small baby started crying and grabbed the nurse her hand with her tiny fingers. In the other room the doctors were still working on her mom. Due to all the blood loss her mother’s heart stopped working. The doctors were doing their best to get her heart started again. It was all in vain as she was long gone; her soul left her body as her daughter left her body.

Meanwhile the father was pacing in the hallway, scared for what news would come. Deep down they always knew this would happen still they decided to take the risk. At this moment Ron wanted to die himself for letting this happen. When the doctor came out he knew straight away what he would say. He fell on his knees, his eyes full of tears, as the love of his life was gone.

Ron looked at the little baby; he knew what she would mean to the people back home. He knew what she would become. And he knew she would never be allowed to become that what everybody would fear. Maya, the baby was a pretty baby. Ron could see straight into her soul and saw how pure and beautiful she was. He could not let it happen so he did what he had to do. He signed all the paperwork and said goodbye to his beautiful wife’s body. He kissed her one final time. He took Maya in his arms and left the hospital. Ron went into the first bus he saw.  He travelled as far as he could with the little Maya. Little Maya did not know what was lying ahead of her but Ron’s decision to take her away from everything he knew would change everything.

Ron decided to hide in the forest for a few days until he could find Samara the Witch of the North.

He knew that he could never have a normal life with his beautiful daughter he should protect her and keep her save. Therefore he should leave to the other world; it would be harder for them to find her there.
